Paris, Tenn.–It was the end of an era for the Paris Police Department Tuesday as Lt. Tony Elkins ended his 34-year career with the department.
Paris Police hosted a surprise retirement luncheon for him at Tom’s Pizza and Steakhouse.
Elkins was greeted by numerous past and present co-workers, including former Police Chief Chuck Elizondo, friends, and family members. Family in attendance included his wife of 43 years, Sharon, and his son Brian along with various other members of his family.
Police Chief Ricky Watson said Lt. Elkins began his distinguished career in September of 1987 and has served faithfully since that time. In 2010, then-Sergeant Elkins was awarded Officer of the Year honors by the department.
“Elkins always took an active role in the training of newly hired patrol officers and is known well to other officers for his legendary ‘Tony Talks’ whenever a new officer hits the street,” Watson said.
At the luncheon, Lt. Elkins was presented with a plaque recognizing his many years of service to the community and exchanged his active badge for his retiree badge.
“We would personally like to thank Tony for everything he has done in his time here for the betterment of his community, this department, and it’s officers. Job well done, enjoy your retirement, we have the watch!”, Watson said.
