Union City, Tenn.–An 11-0 burst to start the game propelled the Union City Middle School boys to a 49-40 win over Milan and their third straight victory Thursday night.
UC (5-6) got eight first-quarter points from Trey Pitts and seven more from Jayden Evans on its way to a 21-8 lead after the first six minutes.
It was 27-20 and halftime, and the Twisters outscored the visitors 13-8 after the Bulldogs had closed to within 36-32 with three quarters in the book.
Pitts finished with a team-best 15 points while Evans netted 14.
The Union City girls were also winners, claiming a 32-21 triumph.
Sh’Nyla Moss tallied 15 points – eight of those in the final stanza after Milan had cut into a big UC lead – to pace the Lady Tornadoes. Sarah Beth Byars added eight points.
The Twister girls led by as many as 13 in the first half before fending off a fourth-quarter charge by the Lady Bulldogs.
UC is now 7-4 on the season.
The Tornado teams conclude a four-game homestand when they entertain Paris Inman Monday night at Marty Sisco Gymnasium.
