DANBURY, Conn. – Kelby Kane and Logan Putvinski, both representatives of the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian squad, captured Eastern College Athletic Conference Rider of the Week honors today. Kane won the award in fences while Putvinski came away with the accolade in reining.
Today’s announcement marks seven ECAC weekly honorees for the Skyhawks in 2021-22. Kane also won the fences award on Oct. 5 and has been joined by Julia Gilman (flat, Oct. 5), Kate Davis (horsemanship and reining, Oct. 19) and Tyler Anderson (flat, Oct. 19).
The UT Martin duo was in action over the weekend as the Skyhawks split at home against No. 4 Texas A&M (lost 12-8) and Lynchburg (won 8-2). Saturday’s victory over Lynchburg improved UT Martin to 3-1 in the ECAC standings at the conclusion of the fall semester.
A senior out of Lexington, Ky., Kane went a perfect 2-0 in fences during the homestand. Her score of 76 on Friday bested her Texas A&M competitor by seven points while her MOP performance of 86 points against Lynchburg was also good enough for a seven-point victory.
Kane is responsible for three of the Skyhawks’ four MOP’s in fences this year while she also maintains a team-best six victories (in six tries) and an 81.3 scoring average.
Winning her first career ECAC weekly accolade is Putvinski, who unreeled a career-high 72.5 points against Texas A&M on the way to her first career MOP.
A Knoxville, Tenn. native, Putvinski has now won two head-to-head matchups in a row during her impressive freshman campaign. She accounts for a 66.6 regular season scoring average while starting in all five meets during the fall portion of the schedule.
UT Martin begins the spring season in the state of Texas with three meets in as many days. The Skyhawks face SMU and Delaware State on Jan. 27-28 in Dallas before heading to Fort Worth for a Jan. 29 matchup against TCU.
