A Martin man was arrested early Friday morning without incident following a domestic violence incident involving a physical attack and a weapon.

According to a report from the Martin police Department, a patrol officer received a call for service in reference to a possible domestic in progress at 130 Beaumont Street, Apartment 11, around 2:16 a.m. Friday.

Once the officer arrived there, he made contact with the victim who told the officer that she and her boyfriend/roommate Marcus L. Garland, Jr. got into an altercation. She said Garland came into the bedroom after her shower and demanded that she get out. She began packing her belongings and then Garland got mad, she said. The victim said Garland began punching, kicking and chocking her. She also told the officer that Garland accused her of having relations with someone else. She said she got away from Garland by biting him and taking his phone from him.

The victim said she went to another apartment to get someone to call 911. She said Garland was behind her with a AR-15 style rifle and that he pointed the rifle towards her.

The officer said in his report that the victim did have scratches on both arms and a busted lip. Pictures of the injuries and a statement from the victim were taken.

After the officer’s arrival, he attempted multiple times to get Garland to come to the door, the report said, but he wouldn’t. The Special Response Team responded to the incident and the apartment complex was evacuated. The SRT tried multiple times to get Garland to the door also. For two and a half hours, Garland would not come to the door.

But, around 4:24 a.m., Garland came to the door. Upon securing the apartment, a AR-15 style rifle was discovered and placed into evidence.

Garland was placed into custody without incident for aggravated domestic assault and was brought to the Martin Police Department for booking procedures. He was then transported to the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office.
