Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Academy for the Arts will be hosting a public reception Saturday, November 13, from 2 to 4 p.m., for the dedication of the Ray Harding Lunchroom.
Founding Board Member and long-time Director of Building Restoration and Maintenance, Ray Harding has volunteered countless hours through the years to preserve the historic school building at 402 Lee Street.
A labor of love, Harding’s efforts have always been about more than refinishing floors or painting walls. For him, it’s about preserving memories and creating new ones.
Harding’s story begins much earlier than 2001 when the nonprofit organization formed to purchase the building and prevent its demolition. For Harding, it goes back to 1947, when he and fellow charter board member Andy Hooper entered first grade in room 8, as he likes to mention to visitors. And he can answer just about any question about the building’s history and contents.
The building was constructed in the 1880s and served as several different schools in its history.
The Board of Directors invites the public to join them in celebration as they rename the lunchroom The Ray Harding Lunchroom. A dedication plaque will be unveiled, speakers will thank Ray for his work, and refreshments will be served. Please come greet Ray and his family.
Paris Academy for the Arts is located at 402 Lee Street, Paris, Tennessee.
