Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Patriots defeated the Choctaws of Dyer County to advance to the second round of playoff action next week by a score of 56 to 21.

The Choctaws won the coin toss but that’s as good as it would get for them on the night.

After receiving the opening kickoff and forced to punt Morgan Barrick scampered 63 yards on the first play of the game for the Patriots to put the Pats on top 6 to 0.  Gavin Lyndsey would convert the point after for a 7  to 0 lead.  It would never be closer than a seven point deficit for the rest of the night for the Choctaws.  Cole Townsend scored at the 6:57 mark of the 1st quarter and Lindsey would convert the PAT again to give the Pats a 14 to 0 lead.

The Patriot defense would give up 2 touchdowns in the first quarter but their offense would match with two more of their own to end the 1st quarter 28 to 14.  Barrick would score two more touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to build a half time score of 42 to 21.  Barrick would score a 4th time in the third quarter to give the Patriots a  49 21 lead.  Javion Boyd intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.  Lindsey would convert the point after for a final score of 56 to 21.

Munford High School defeated Portland in the final minutes of their game 28 to 27 meaning the Patriots will be on the road next week as they advance, playing Munford in the second round.
