Union City, Tenn.–Once more, a collection of Union City High School singers has proven capable of making beautiful music.

Six students have been selected to participate in the Northwest Tennessee Honor Choir, which will perform Nov. 20 at West Jackson Baptist Church.

Seniors Tai/Zhan Fuller (tenor-1) and Gracie Mobbs (soprano-1), junior Chloe Meade (alto-1) and freshmen Myranda Parr (alto-2), M’Kaylie Ingram (alto-1) and Addison Kitchen (alto-1) were picked from more than 400 students across West Tennessee as members of the elite singing group.

It marked the third year in a row Fuller has been chosen, with Mobbs earning a spot in consecutive years now.

Students sent an audio tape consisting of excerpts from songs to be sung at the concert later this month to audition for the group. The collegiate-level music was challenging, and each student was also required to sing in a foreign language.

The UCHS students practiced together outside of school time and were also responsible for rehearsing on their own.

“It’s an honor for our students to be chosen to participate in this,” UCMS/HS music teacher Allison Butner said. “Most of the students who audition are from school systems that have established middle school and high school choral programs, so they have a considerable amount of experience and training.

“This is only our second year to have choir as a class. That we had six of our eight students who auditioned for the group make it, is truly amazing.”

The group will rehearse for its performance Nov. 18 and 19 in Jackson.
