Paris, Tenn.–Tommy Townsend makes a point at Thursday night’s Henry County Historical Society meeting as he speaks about the history of his home, which was built as a log home in 1840. The home, located on Hwy. 54 just outside of Como, has served many purposes over the decades, including as a stage coach stop, a polling place and county library. The home also was the site of an overnight stay by James K. Polk, who was then running for Tennessee Governor. Townsend said buying the home in 1978 was a “dream come true. I always wanted to live in a log home” and it turned into a “lifetime project” in restoration. Historical Society members gathered at the Townsend home for last night’s program.
