Union City High School cross country runners received a spirited study body send-off Thursday as they departed for Hendersonville and the Class A-AA state meet.

Students from both the high school and middle school lined the campus streets, many with signs and several shouting words of encouragement for the Tornado runners as they departed town.

The UCHS girls’ team will compete at the state level for the first time ever today at 1:20, running the Sanders Ferry Park course.

Members of the squad include Kennedi Robinson, Bailey Wagoner, Chloe Meade, Adeline rice, Lizzy Jones, Daisy Sanchez and Myranda Parr.

Cedrion Jones will run in the state for the fourth consecutive year, representing the Tornado boys’ team.

The UC contingent toured the course Thursday afternoon before enjoying a team meal together at the Old Hickory Steakhouse in the Opryland Hotel, thanks to a generous program donor.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these kids and they will be ready to compete,” Union City head coach Katie Parr said.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Medina 18, UC 10 (G)

Medina 46, UC 21 (B)

The UC Middle School girls are now 4-2 with the boys standing at 2-4 after the Tornado squads fell to Medina Thursday on the road.

Union City managed but three field goals and struggled at the free throw line in dropping the opener.

The Twister boys also had offensive shortcomings in Game 2, making just six shots from the field in the contest.

Zac Summers had seven points and Will Kail tallied six for UC.

The Tornado teams play at Trenton Monday.
