CHICAGO, Ill. – University of Tennessee at Martin football standout Eyabi Anoma added another weekly honor to his collection on Monday as he was named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week following a dominating performance against Austin Peay.
Anoma was previously named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week on Sunday.
The defensive lineman put on a show in Saturday’s 17-16 win over Austin Peay by setting career-highs with eight tackles (five solo), including 4.5 tackles for loss totaling 23 yards and 1.5 sacks. Along with his big hits, arguably his most influential play was a block of the Governors’ potential go-ahead field goal attempt in the final seconds to secure the team’s victory. In total, his 4.5 TFLs were the most by a Skyhawk since 2013 and ranked tops in the OVC since 2013.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Anoma leads the OVC with 5.0 sacks on the season while ranking second with 8.5 tackles for loss in seven games.
