Paris, Tenn.–The Deputies For The Hungry program will go on in Henry County this year.

Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey said today, “We understand that there are a lot of citizens that have questions about CWD and the effect it will have on the Deputies for the Hungry Program. After careful consideration, the Henry County Sheriffs Office is proud to announce that the Sheriffs Office will continue to process deer this year through the program.”

The Deputies for Hungry Program through the Henry County Sheriffs Office serves many citizens of Henry County,, he said, with free deer meat distributed to the public.

“All necessary procedures will be taken as to the processing of the deer. In the event that a deer does test positive for CWD, that specific deer meat will not be distributed,” he said.

Deer may be dropped off for processing at the deer shed (in the parking lot behind the sheriff’s office) starting November 6, 2021 through January 7, 2021.

All deer must be field dressed and checked in prior to dropping off the deer. TWRA will be picking up the deer heads for CWD testing from the deer shed. The processed meat will then be distributed at the end of the season and the community will be notified

Hulmes Sporting Goods will be sponsoring a rifle giveaway at the end of the season. Each time a hunter brings a deer to the Henry County Sheriffs Office for processing, they will receive a ticket that they will then take to Hulmes Sporting Goods and place in a bucket for a drawing at the end of the season. The winner must be 18 years of age and be able to pass a background check. The winning ticket holder must be the one who claims the gun. If for some reason the drawn name does not qualify for the rifle, another ticket will be drawn

The Henry County Sheriffs Office would like to thank Hulmes Sporting Goods for their continued community support. The Henry County Sheriffs Office would also like to thank all the citizens and hunters for their support and donations which makes the program such a big success
