
Union City, Tenn.–A full week of fun activities are planned for the annual CornFest in Union City, including the Family Day in the Backyard, a Cornbread Cook-off, and Evening in the Vines.
Here is what you can expect this week:
Family Day in the Park: Saturday, October 16th
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 16th as Obion County CornFest welcomes you to Family Day in the Backyard at the Obion County Public Library! The fun starts at 9am and runs through 3pm. Come see the Dewey Decimal of Obion County – where local businesses highlight how they help make Obion County a special place! Enjoy lots of fun for the whole family including: pumpkin painting, cake walks, a kid’s concert and chalk art contest, enter our corn bread cookoff, and watch this area’s best singers compete for 1 thousand dollars in CornFest Idol! Come hungry and enjoy treats from food trucks featuring all your favorite fare! It’s a day full of fun for the whole family Saturday, October 16th at the Obion County public library!
Cornbread Cook-off, October 16th
Do you make the best cornbread around? It’s time for Obion County CornFest’s annual Cornbread Cookoff! Join us at Family Day in the Backyard of the Obion County Public Library on Saturday, October 16th to see who makes the very best cornbread from scratch! It’s free to enter! Bring your cornbread along with your recipe to library between 9 and 10 am. Winners announced at 11am. You must be present to win. Cash prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in three age categories.
Dewey Decimal of Obion County, Saturday, October 16th
Obion County CornFest is excited to join The Obion County Public Library for Family Day in the Backyard! Where the library is hosting a Dewey Decimal of Obion County. Local business are encouraged to come set up a booth – get your Dewey Decimal ranking and show off how you make Obion County a special place to live and work! Evening in the Vines, Friday, October 15th at White Squirrel Winery from 6pm til 9pm
Obion County CornFest is proud to present, “An Evening in the Vines” at White Squirrel Winery on Friday, October 15th to benefit Trudy’s Kids’ Café. Come enjoy heavy hors d’ oeuvres and a cash bar while browsing a silent auction of fun experiences and beautiful art. Johnny Mac will be the musical entertainment so wear your dancing shoes along with your favorite cocktail attire! Tickets are available at The Obion County Public Library for $30 per person or $50 a couple. An Evening the vines, at White Squirrel Winery on Friday, October 15th at 6pm.

It’s time for the Obion County CornFest Cornbread Cookoff! Join us at Family Day in the Backyard on Saturday, October 16th! It’s free to enter, bring your cornbread to library’s back porch between 9 and 10 am. Winners announced at 11am, and you must be present to win. Cash prizes awarded for three age categories: Ages 5 -10, 10 to 17 and 18 and up.
1st place winner receives $25, 2nd place $15 and 3rd place $10. To enter bring 3 pieces of cornbread on a paper plate wrapped in clear wrap or foil. Please write your name, address email and phone number on the bottom of the plate. Your homemade recipe must accompany your cornbread entry. One entry per person.
Cornfest Idol
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS is on the line to see who will be this year’s CornFest Idol! Do you have what it takes to take home the big cash prize? Join us at one of two preliminary rounds to qualify for our big singing contest at Family Day in the Backyard on Saturday, October 16th at the Obion County Public Library.
There’s no fee to audition at the preliminaries. Contestants may choose to perform a song from the DJ’s catalog, they can bring their own accompanying track, a musical instrument or perform A Cappella. Preliminary dates are:
- Wednesday, October 13th at 6:30 at the Alibi Bar and Grill in Downton Union City
- Thursday, October 14th at 6:30 at Hops and Barley in Union City
The highest scoring contestants from each preliminary will compete in the Idol contest on Saturday, October 16th at Family Day in the Backyard at the Obion County Public Library.
Finalists are required to fill out an application and submit a $20 non-refundable application fee. First prize $1,000 – second place $250, third place $100. This is a fundraiser for the backpack programs in Union City and Obion County.
