
Union City, Tenn.–After a vote of the Obion County School Board Monday night, the county school system returned to Phase 1 of its COVID protocols. Phase 1 is the least restrictive of the COVID operating procedures.
According to the State Department of Health, Obion County now has 229 active cases, which is a decline from the past few weeks.
The return to Phase 1 was effective today and the action means a return to no restrictions for academic classes. Face masks are not required, but are recommended for unvaccinated persons and the school system will not conduct contact tracing. Staff and students identified by the Department of Health or Medical Provider as a positive case will be required to isolate according to CDC or Department of Health guidelines.
*Staff and students identified by the Department of Health as close contacts will be recommended to quarantine according to CDC or Department of Health guidelines.

EFFECTIVE ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5
Obion County Schools will transition to Phase 1 – Low Spread of our reopening plan.
The following is what Phase 1 means for our schools:
Academic Classes:
*No Restictions
*PreK-12: Traditional Classes
*PreK-12: Virtual learning through online instruction for students ordered to quarantine by the Department of Health.
Disinfection and Sanitation:
*Clean/disinfect frequently touched surfaces as well as shared objects to the greatest extent possible
*Everyone use hand sanitizer and wash hands to the greatest extent possible
Face Masks:
*Masks are not required
*Masks are recommened for unvaccinated persons
*Masks are allowed for staff and students who wish to wear one
Serving Meals:
*No Restirctions
*Students participating in virtual learning may make arrangements for meal pick-up at their school.
Temperature Screening:
*Students/staff exhibiting symptoms will be isolated from other students and staff for assessment.
Contact Tracing/Quarantine:
*OCS will not conduct contact tracing.
*Staff and students identified by the Department of Health or Medical Provider as a positive case will be required to isolate according to CDC or Department of Health guidelines.
*Staff and students identified by the Department of Health as close contacts will be recommended to quarantine according to CDC or Department of Health guidelines.
COVID Testing:
*OCS nurses will conduct COVID testing with written consent.
