UC Golf, Cross Country Impressive

Union City, Tenn.–Union City easily outdistanced Greenfield in boys’ prep golf on Monday at the Weakley County Country Club in Sharon.

The Tornadoes were 22 shots better than G’field (193-215) in team play, led by Nolan Chandler, who shot 44. Landon Hauhe finished with a 45, Reese Paschall shot 49 and Carter Watts carded a 55.

The UC girls won their match, too, when two of Greenfield’s players failed to complete the nine holes.

Mimi Jenkins fired a 47 to finish with the day’s best score. Teammates Molly Kizer (52) and Alli Kate Frilling (55) completed the Lady Tornado scorecard.

Union City will host West Carroll Thursday at Poplar Meadows.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

Three Union City boys’ runners medaled with Top 15 finishes in a large field meet at Lake Road Monday afternoon.

Woodrow McKinnis had the best time for the Tornadoes, placing seventh at 9:53 on the 1.5-mile course. Rushdon Howell was 13th (10:04), and Braden Chism came in 15th (10:18).

Blythe Ogden was the top finisher for the UC girls, coming in 25th.

In all, 20 Tornado runners competed in either the varsity or jayvee races.

Union City will host its own Invitational Saturday morning at 9.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Crockett Co. 5-11, UC 0-5

The Lady Tornadoes fell to 3-2 after losing both ends of a doubleheader at Alamo Monday.

Five errors and eight walks hurt Union City’s chances in the nightcap.

The Twisters led 3-0 after one and 4-2 with two innings in the book but saw CC tally eight times in its final two at-bats.

Addison Carr and Clare Atwill both singled and knocked in runs for UC. Atwill, Sarah Beth Byars, Madie Theobald and Allie Vincent scored for the Lady Tornadoes.

Maddie Smith was the losing hurler despite giving up just five hits.

Union City failed to collect a hit in the opening game defeat.

Carr was tagged with the pitching loss, though just two of Crockett County’s runs were earned.

UC will host a pair of opponents today at Graham Park, playing Trenton at 5 p.m. and Dyersburg at 7 o’clock.
