Waverly, Tenn.–Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis has issued a heartfelt thanks to all the first responders from all over who have been helping in the search and rescue efforts following Saturday’s catastrophic flooding that has killed 22 people, including children. Recovery efforts and damage assessments continue today, with under 10 people still listed as missing.

Davis said, “It’s such a blessing to see other agencies from just about everywhere; stopping their normal schedules and coming to our assistance….words just can’t explain the appreciation for these outstanding individuals.”

This morning Davis said first responders have identified a new need for those wanting to donate. “We would like Gatorade, sun screen and bug spray for the people on the ground searching. If you would like to donate any of these items, please drop it at the Dollar Tree Staging area on west main. It should not be hard to miss. Thank you!”

Davis said in a press release Monday night, “At this time, we are communicating with families and working with agencies regarding victims and missing persons.”
A list of missing persons is available on the Waverly Department of Public Safety Facebook page. If you know that any of these people are safe, please call the 911 Center at (931) 296-7792.
East Main Street in Waverly and adjoining side streets were closed beginning Monday night at 8:00 p.m. and will remain closed throughout the day today.
“We’ve had numerous people driving through those areas where residents are attempting clean-up efforts,” said Waverly Chief of Public Safety Grant Gillespie. “We need to clear the area for them to be able move around more easily.”
Residents who are cleaning up from flood damage are asked to document and if possible, make pictures of items being removed from their homes before being disposed of. This will enable agencies to completely account for losses due to flood damage.
People interested in volunteering should call (931) 888-8011 or (931) 888-8012 or go to the Dollar Tree Parking lot located at 505 W. Main Street where response agencies are located.
