Paris, Tenn.–Shortly after Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order No. 84 was issued late Monday afternoon, Henry County Schools posted a sample form that parents can fill out to opt out of local mask mandates for their children.

Governor Lee’s Executive Order allows parents the ability to opt out of local mask mandates issued in the local schools or by local health departments.

On the form distributed by Henry County Schools, officials said parents/guardians may notify the district in writing that they wish to opt out. The forms must include the date, name of student, name of school and parent’s signature. In the case of more than one student per family, a separate form must be be filled out for each student.

At last week’s meeting, the Henry County School board issued a mask requirement for the school district to combat the dramatic increase in local active COVID cases. The mask requirement will be in force when the district is in either the yellow or red phase.
