Former Assistant DA Sentenced To Jail, Community Supervision

Huntingdon, Tenn.–A former 24th Judicial District Assistant District Attorney was sentenced Monday on charges that included theft, official misconduct, and tampering with governmental records. The 24th District includes Carroll, Henry, Benton, Decatur and Hardin Counties.

Thomas Tansil Jr. was indicted by the Carroll County Grand Jury in September of 2020 on one count of theft over $10,000, one count of official misconduct, one count of tampering with governmental records and one count of computer offenses. The District Attorney of the 10th Judicial District was assigned to prosecute the case.

In the sentencing hearing Monday before Carroll County Judge Donald Parish, Tansil was sentenced to some four years, with 10 months to be served in jail and the remainder on community supervision.

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office had resulted in Tansil’s indictment.

Investigators had determined that Tansil Jr. wrongfully obtained $22,740.36 in state salary and travel expense reimbursements between August 1, 2017 and January 31, 2020.
