Paris, Tenn.–A multitude of volunteers helped to hand out free backpacks full of school supplies to over 900 kids at Saturday’s Back To School Bash held at the Henry County Fairgrounds. The Shed Founder Michelle Brewer said 902 were handed out altogether, with 330 given out in the first hour alone. “We had people already in line at 7:25 a.m. and we didn’t start until 9,” she said. “They just wanted to make sure they got the school supplies for their kids.

Volunteers came from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Paris Police, Caring Bikers, VFW, American Legion, Am Vets, Paris Special Schools District, Henry County Schools, the Wives of Henry County Sheriff’s Office. Backpacks were donated by TVCC and Trinity United Methodist Church.

Brewer said an anonymous donor gave Walmart gift cards that were worth $15 each and handed out randomly to people in line. Ace’s Pizza, Paris Landing Subway and Mockingbird Catering provided food to the volunteers.

The event was sponsored by The Shed and The Family Resource Center.
