Paris, Tenn.–Henry County Extension Director Michele Atkins cooks omelets with Ben Wimberley and Gavin Evans on Wednesday, the last day of the Teen Academy which was designed to teach life skills. Twenty-three students participated in the three-day Academy and Atkins said, “Everything went really well. We’ve decided we’re going to do this on an annual basis, right before the school year starts.” On the evaluation forms, Atkins said, “The kids told us that their favorite things to do this week were changing a tire, writing checks and sewing on buttons.” Other life skills taught this week included how to tie a tie, how to do laundry and ironing, how to clean, car maintenance, table manners, setting the table, food safety, how to prepare breakfast and more.
