Update from Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey on the animal cruelty case involving the dog “Zeus” who was seriously injured July 4.
“As of this time the Henry County Sheriff’s Office has the follow information in regards to the theft of Zeus:
On or about July 4th Zeus was taken from his home on Cowpath Road while the owners were out of town. When Zeus was taken away from his home the person or persons removed his electronic collar and left it on the property.
On July 4th Zeus was witnessed being dropped off on Lick Creek Rd in Big Sandy, TN. The witness gave a description of the truck seen dropping Zeus off as a older model light blue truck with a matching camper top. The witnesses then contacted Benton County Animal Control which responded to the scene and took Zeus to the vet in Camden. Treatment was started at this time on Zeus.
On the evening of July 4th I became aware of the situation involving Zeus. On July 5th contact was made with Zeus’s owner Scott Hopkins. I received all the information I could from Mr. Hopkins in regards to Zeus’s disappearance. Since that time two investigators have been on the case daily following up every lead possible.
The investigation has revealed, according to the vet, that Zeus was either ran over by a car and/ or drug down the road. We continue to stay in contact with ADA Griffey regarding the case. This investigation is ongoing and we ask that anyone that may have information please contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 731-642-1672.”
