Union City, TN– A large crowd turned out this morning (Tuesday, July 13) to join Congressman David Kustoff, TDOT Commissioner Clay Bright, and other state and local officials at the I-69 bridge in Union City this morning to kick off the paving of the new Interstate 69.
Both Congressman Kustoff and Commissioner Bright shared remarks, thanking current and former state and local officials, and TDOT workers for their past and continued hard work on the project over the years.
“Today is a big day for West Tennessee. The paving of I-69 will facilitate tourism, economic development, and improve safety to hundreds of rural communities here in West Tennessee,” said Rep. Kustoff. “I will continue to work hard for West Tennessee at the federal level on behalf of I-69.”
I-69 has been under development since 2009 and is expected to facilitate international trade as it will run from the Canadian border all the way to the Mexican border. It is expected to be a big economic and tourism boost for Obion County and West Tennessee upon its completion.
The 6.5 mile stretch of I-69 is expected to be fully paved by the summer of 2023.
