A local man was charged with filing a false police report after it was discovered that he allegedly made up the story of being beaten and robbed by multiple men on two occasions.
Kevin J. Byrd, 30, Dyersburg, reported to the DPD on Friday night that he had been assaulted by 16 black males near the Huddle House. He reported that he thought his ribs were broken from the assault. Officers investigated and determined that the assault did not occur. EMS was called to the scene and did not find any injuries to Byrd.
This is the second time that Byrd has alleged that he was attacked by a group of black males. June 10, around 3 a.m., Byrd reported to the DPD that he had been assaulted and robbed of $550.00 by at least 16 black males while walking at Okeena Park. Both complaints were unfounded, resulting in Byrd being charged with a Class D felony of filing a false police report. Byrd was jailed pending Dyersburg City Court action.
