Memphis, Tenn.–With the delivery Saturday afternoon of the fabricated steel plates, Phase One of the DeSoto 1-40 Bridge can begin. The plates made their way from Bowling Green, Ky. to Memphis Saturday. The Stupp Bridge Company prepared the steel plates and now they will be placed on each side of the bridge fracture to hold heavy equipment. The Hernando DeSoto bridge was closed May 11 after the fracture was discovered and will remain closed indefinitely.
