Union City, Tenn.–Things added up easily for Math Olympics winners at Union City Schools.

Second- and third-grade students at UC Elementary School and those in the fifth and sixth grade at UC Middle School recently participated in the annual end-of-school activity with winners in the competition determined at each level.

The activity allowed students in those classes to put to good use skills they’d learned during the 2020-21 school year from their respective teachers. Initial rounds included students in each class with the winners determined from the top three who competed in each of those classrooms.

Those in the third grade used multiplication facts and applications to decide winners.

Fifth-grade students had to correctly answer multiplication and division facts in five seconds or less.

The sixth-grade competition required participants to present multiplication facts — first within three seconds, then within two. Multiplication flashcards were traded for division flashcards to eventually determine the winners.

The top three finishers in the competition in each grade received medals.
