
Paris, Tenn.–The four 2021 recipients of The David J. Murphey Scholarship in Paris have been announced:
They are:
Tyler Bostick attending Murray State University, son of Jacquelyn Bostick.
Nikki Kreitz attending the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, daughter of Daniel and Kim Kreitz.
Lakin Williams attending the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, daughter of Chris and Jennifer Williams.
Annie Veazey attending Union University, daughter of Roger and Becka Veazey.
The David J. Murphey Foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) in May of 1988 with the
purpose of honoring his memory through scholarships for post-secondary education.
Since that time 3-4 scholarships have been awarded annually totaling over 100
recipients and $50,000 in funds.
The scholarship is meant to be an encouragement for good students that might not
otherwise be recognized. Students cannot apply for the scholarship, but nominees are
selected by a Teacher Panel appointed by the guidance counselors’ office of Henry
County High School Paris, TN with these criteria in mind:
• Nominees must be graduating seniors of HCHS
• Nominees must exhibit good attitudes, conduct, work ethic in theclassroom
• GPA or ACT score is not to be considered
• Extracurricular activities are not to be considered
• Financial need is not to be considered
Nominees selected by the Teacher Panel must participate in a panel interview made
up of a representative from each of the following groups: The Paris Optimist Club, First
Baptist Church Paris Staff, Commercial Bank and Trust Paris, and the Murphey Family.
The scholarship has been awarded to students attending various post-secondary
institutions including colleges, universities, technical schools, military academies,
culinary schools, and even a ship building school.
