Union City, Tenn.–Way before the 2021-22 school year is set to begin, parents of Union City Elementary and UC Middle School students are getting some good news.
Union City Schools will provide all school supplies – excluding backpacks — for students in PreK-4th grade at UCES and those in grades 5-8 at UCMS.
It marks the second consecutive year that Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy has lessened the financial burden on parents of the often-costly expense of purchasing supplies.
“It’s something we could again do for them (parents), and we hope it gives them one less thing to worry about when they begin the process of returning to school in August,” Kennedy said. “For parents with multiple students in our system, it really does lessen the challenge of getting things in order for each child to start a new school year.”
Among the items to be provided to UCES students will be pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, paper, notebooks and binders.
Hand sanitizer, Kleenex, wipes and other cleaning products will also be readily available on all three UC Schools campuses.
UCMS Principal Lance Morgan was grateful for the gesture on two fronts.
“As both an administrator and a parent, I’m appreciative of the many things Mr. Kennedy does for our students and their families,” Morgan said. “I know our faculty and staff is grateful, too. Not having to worry about if a student has the means to provide for what they need to be successful in class really does take the pressure off in many situations.”
The first day for students in the Union City Schools System for the 2021-22 school year is Aug. 9.
