Cottage Grove, Tenn.–The Henry County Airport has reopened for smaller aircraft and only during daylight hours.

The airport has been closed since April due to a sinkhole near the runway. A 3,500 foot section of the runway has now been approved for use.

Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway said the airport was reopened Friday, but only for smaller aircraft which can take off and land on the shortened runway.

Ridgeway said TDOT will be at the local airport Thursday to further inspect the sinkhole using Geotech equipment to check the extent of the damage.

He said airport personnel have applied for a grant to fix the sinkhole. It is hoped that the runway can be repaired and the airport open to all aircraft this summer, he said.
