Union City, Tenn.–Huge crowds have been on hand for the weekend’s Military History & Armed Services Symposium 2021 at Discovery Park.
The event has featured book talks, live podcast recordings, panel discussions, tours, up-close looks at military vehicles, and pop-up exhibits, such as the one featuring Civil War-era photos by famed photographer Mathew Brady. The event continues today with a keynote address and landing and take-ff of a UH-6- Black Hawk helicopter during the afternoon.
Over 500 were in attendance just on Friday for the Day One activities and the crowds got bigger Saturday.
One of the most popular sessions was a Book Talk about “In Harm’s Way: A History of the American Military Experience” by Dr. David Coffey, Department Chair of History at UT Martin.
Dr. Coffey said, “We learned this semester that the United States Military Academy at Westpoint has adopted the book for their required class Military History 101. Every cadet will get this book in their first year, and that’s 1200 copies. The Army has its own text book and for Westpoint to adopt this book was a real acclamation for us.”
