Paris, Tenn.–Tuesday was a near-perfect day for Union City spring sports teams.

Wins in both high school and middle school soccer, prep softball, and a sweep by the UC Middle School tennis squads made for a stellar afternoon for those wearing the Purple and Gold.

Highlights from those competitions are as follows:

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

UC 4, Peabody 2

The Tornadoes scored twice in the final 17 minutes, connecting first on a tie-breaking goal, then an insurance tally to improve to 3-2.

Isaac Mack broke a 2-all deadlock and Miguel Sanchez then tallied his second goal of the contest to lift the Twisters into the win column.

UC led 2-0 at the intermission after goals by Chandler Adams and Sanchez. Adams, one of the Tornadoes’ best and most consistent players this spring, later left the match after suffering a dislocated knee cap.

He will be out of action for at least the remainder of the week.

“Our defense really tightened up after that to seal the game,” Union City head coach John Graham said.

Ka’Jaylon Bell had four saves in goal for the Tornadoes, while both Logan Elmore and Brian Arellano were credited with assists.

Union City will play at South Fulton Thursday.

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL

UC 18, Lake Co. 0

The Lady Tornadoes matched their season high with 19 hits and outclassed LC for the second time this season in a three-inning mercy rule contest.

Union City beat the Lady Falcons 16-0 in an earlier meeting.

The Twister girls had five extra-base knocks with Anny Lynn Cheatham, Bailey Decker, Marlee Theobald and Sophie Theobald all ripping doubles. Emmaline Qualls a triple.

Marlee Theobald ended up 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI, while Decker went 3-for-3 with two ribbies and a pair of runs scored.

Qualls scored four times, and both Kaitlyn Lamb and Sara Ullrich finished 2-for-3 with three runs knocked in. Emma Powell had two singles and scored twice.

Sophie Theobald allowed just two hits and fanned four to pick up her third win in five decisions.

UC is now 8-5 overall, and a perfect 6-0 in District 13A games.

The Lady Tornadoes will celebrate Senior Night Thursday against Gleason with pregame ceremonies set for 5:45 and first pitch slated for 6 o’clock.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCEER

UC 5, Henry County 0

The Tornadoes improved to 2-2-1 as Marcos Landeros recorded a hat trick.

Drake Chism found the net via a corner kick and Jordan Lofton scored off an assist from Gavin Morgan.

UC led 4-0 at the intermission.

Rushdon Howell and Woodrow Wilson both were lauded by head coach Lance Morgan for solid defensive play while Carter Wilson and Beck Tanner were each in on a handful of tackles.

Gracie Worrell was cited for several clears and Adrian Crawford had a number of good passes.

Union City will play again Thursday, at Paris Inman.
