Union City, Tenn.–One of Union City’s favorite sons is coming home for a visit.

Javonte Moffatt of the Cleveland Browns, a three-sport standout at UCHS and the school’s first graduate to play in the National Football League, will return to town on April 24 to host a block party.

The event will be held at the Nash Street Park from 3-8 p.m. and will also coincide with Moffatt announcing the formation of his foundation that will provide scholarships and help those in need in Union City Schools.

The block party itself will feature many activities for both kids and adults.

For students, there will be games, 3-point and free-throw shooting contests, a football toss, and a bouncy castle – all beginning at 3 and running until 5 p.m. Free food and drinks will be served from 5-6 and socializing will continue from 6 until 8 p.m.

The event will also include a Moffatt Cleveland Browns’ jersey raffle.

Moffatt helped the Union City High School football team to a pair of state championships in 2013 and ’14, and also was a member of the Tornado basketball team that finished as state runner-up at the end of the 2015 season.

He earned a scholarship to continue his playing career at Middle Tennessee State University where he was a standout in the Blue Raiders’ secondary. Moffatt was signed to the Browns’ practice squad after going undrafted and then was promoted to Cleveland’s 53-man roster early in the 2020 season where he played extensively on special teams.

He’s already acknowledged the importance of Union City, the UC School System and, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Tennessee in his development with a large donation of Under Armour cleats and other goods to the Union City High School, Middle School, and Jr. Tornado football programs.
