City Of Paris Hires First Female Firefighter

viviana-rodriguez

Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Fire Department has hired its first female firefighter.
Viviana Rodriguez is one of three new firefighters hired by the department following recent retirements.
In addition to Rodriguez, Chief Michael Williams has hired Josh Clayton and Devin Veazey. Clayton began work with the Department before the end of 2020. Rodriguez and Veazey were both hired into the department the first of January.
Rodriguez has the distinction of being the first female firefighter for the City of Paris. Originally from Colombia, South America, Rodriguez has wanted to give back since moving to the United States, according to the city’s press release.
She originally had begun preparations to join the Army when the position at the Fire Department came open. “She saw this as a challenge that she was ready for and made the decision to apply,” according to the press release. “She is excited about serving her local community and the opportunity to remain in Paris full time. Viviana became a US citizen in 2010. She has two children, her daughter is a student at Grove and her son attends Paris Elementary School.”
Veazey is a native of Paris and Henry County and began work for the City of Paris in 2018 as a mechanic in the Public Works Department. When the opening came about in the Fire Department he saw this as a fulfilling career. He still does mechanic work on the side but feels that he has found his forever job as a firefighter, according to the city release.
Clayton has been with the Fire Department since the end of last year and is a native and lifelong resident of Henry County. He previously worked as a Ferrier and continues to do so part time.
Clayton attended the Tennessee Fire Academy and graduated in November. He holds the distinction of the only Paris Firefighter that attended the academy during the pandemic. Things were much different to navigate and we congratulate Josh for his efforts and his successful completion of the Academy, according to the press release.
City officials said, “We want to welcome all of our new firefighters. We appreciate the sacrifice they, along with their families make, to serve our Fire Department. Best wishes to all on a long and fulfilling career with the Paris Fire Department!”
