Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is currently receiving calls and complaints from citizens about a current scam where the scammers are claiming to be officers with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
The scammers are using the sheriff’s office phone number in an attempt to convince the victims they are real deputies and they will advise the victims they have a warrant in an attempt to obtain money, credit card information, banking information or personal information.
Sheriff Josh Frey said, “Do not give personal information over the phone, do not confirm social security numbers, birthdates, addresses or banking information.
Henry County Sheriff’s Office deputies will not call or threaten a person with a warrant only to concede to taking a payment by phone.”
No employee of the sheriff’s office will ask for personal information over the phone nor will they ask for banking or credit card information, he said.
According to the press release from the sheriff’s office, “If a person has a warrant, an officer will personally arrive at the residence to serve the warrant or a person may turn themselves in at the sheriffs office to be served. This is the way a civil process is served; In person by a uniformed sheriff’s deputy.
“Complaints have also been received about investigators from the sheriff’s office calling suspected victims about their Amazon account being hacked. This is also a scam and the scammers will always ask for personal information or they will want you to confirm personal information.
“We will not know if your Amazon account or any other account has been hacked unless the account holder has contacted the sheriff’s office to advise is.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s office.”
