McKenzie, Tenn.–The Mayor of McKenzie Jill Holland and City Council members have recognized the world class athletic accomplishments of local resident Kirsten Winkler Sass with the unveiling of one of three signs that will be placed around McKenzie recognizing Kirsten’s contributions to the community.
A crowd of about 50 triathletes, local runners, family and friends gathered together Thursday afternoon along the walkway beside the soccer field of Bethel University.
The proclamation recognized Kirsten for her USA Triathlon Overall Amateur Female Triathlete of the Year 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
She won the USA Triathlon Open Amateur Female Triathlete of the Year in 2018, the USA Triathlon Overall Amateur Femal Duathlete of the year: 2015, 2016 and 2019..
Kirsten is a 10X World Champion Gold Medalist, a 5X World Champion Silver Medalist, and is a World Champion Bronze Medalist. In addition she holds 23 National Champions in the Triathlon and Duathlon and was the 2016, Ironman Louisville Overall Female.
In addition to her success as an athlete she also has given back by guiding elite Para Triathlete, Amy Dixon, in national and world Paratriathlon and Triathlon races. In addition to four World Cup places, these competitions among world-class athletes have earned this team distinguished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th places in over seventeen races.
Sass expressed her gratitude to the community, her family, and specifically local triathletes who push her to continue to strive to excel.
