
Update: Fire Chief Reggie Coles said the fire appears to have been caused by a space heater.
Buchanan, Tenn.–A Buchanan home was destroyed by fire Friday afternoon and a pet dog perished.
Paris Landing Fire Department Fire Chief Reggie Coles said the owner of the home, Nell Thompson, was not at home at the time of the blaze. Her pet cat was able to escape, but her pet dog did not.
The Paris Landing Fire Department and Henry Co. Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 2355 Clayton Road in Buchanan, he said. The Puryear Fire Department also provided automatic mutual aid and the Henry County Emergency Medical Service also was dispatched.
Arriving units found half of the home engulfed in flames.
Exact cause of the fire is still undetermined but appears to be accidental, he said. Damage is estimated at $75,000. Paris Landing responded with 4 trucks and 8 firefighters, Puryear responded with 2 trucks and 8 firefighters. Units were on the scene for 3 hours.
