Union City’s Class 1A sectional opponent Monday night has changed.
The playing of an ineligible player in the Region 8A Tournament championship game has prompted the TSSAA to remove MASE (Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering) from further play in the postseason series this year.
One of the nation’s top shooting guards, who played last year at Wooddale and at another school earlier this year before transferring to MASE and participating in the regional title game in Memphis Tuesday, is reportedly the player at the center of the decision.
The action means the Golden Tornadoes will now play at MAHS (Memphis Academy of Health Sciences) Monday night at 7 instead of MASE.
MAHS defeated Union City 41-28 in a sectional meeting last season and had beaten MASE three times before losing a fourth meeting in the regional championship game. MAHS will come into the contest with a 10-8 record.
Because of the TSSAA action, top-ranked Madison Academic will receive a bye into the state tournament.
Ticket information for the UC-MAHS game will be announced this weekend.
