The McKenzie Lady Rebels dreams of a going to the state tournament came to an end last night at the hands of Loretto High School. Led by the sister combo of senior Kensey Weathers and her younger sister Karly Weathers with 25 and 18 points each, the Rebels lost by a final score of 66-54. The Rebels trailed through the first half but were able to take short leads in the final two stanzas. The inside game of Kensey Weathers became the downfall for the Rebels as she picked up 23 of her 25 points in the last two periods. She sat out a lot of the first half after hurting her knee but came back with a brace to lead the Loretto squad to the victory.
The Lady Rebels couldn’t overcome the tenacious defense of the Loretto team with just 5 three-point shots in the game. Senior Lilly Bennett led the Lady Rebels with 22 points in her final game at McKenzie. Freshmen Savannah Davis tossed in 17, Kylie Reynolds had 11, Dani Dyer 2, and Briley Auvenshine 2 as well. The Lady Rebels finished the best season in years with just 1 loss prior to last night and over 20 wins.
