Union City, Tenn.–Just in time for the most important games of the season, more Union City basketball fans will be allowed to attend.

So, too, will Tornado cheerleaders.

With Gov. Bill Lee’s announcement last week that he would be lifting the restrictions on sporting events contained in Executive Order No. 74, there will be new ticket policies put in place for a handful of regular season games remaining and the subsequent district and regional tournaments to follow.

Cheerleading squads will also now be allowed to attend and participate.

One hundred tickets will be available at UCHS to Tuesday’s road game at Bradford. Tickets are $6 each and will be sold from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. today and Tuesday. TSSAA passes will be accepted Tuesday night at BHS, but there will be no tickets sold at the door.

When the Tornado teams visit South Fulton Friday, one-third capacity – roughly 750 fans, according to SFHS officials – will be allowed to witness the games in person. TSSAA passes will be honored, and the first-come-first-serve tickets will cost $6 each.

Masks will be required for entry and temperatures will be taken at the door. Social distancing in the seating area will be encouraged.

Union City has one final home doubleheader remaining, Tuesday, Feb. 9, vs. Gleason. Senior Night festivities will be observed and an undetermined number of tickets will be pre-sold for $6 each at the high school on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Both season tickets and student tickets will be accepted, as will TSSAA passes.

The UCHS cheerleaders will participate.

Attendance particulars for the postseason – that will see the higher seed host in each round – will be announced late next week.

TSSAA rules regarding masks, temperature checks, social distancing and COVID-19 recommended venue capacities will remain in effect in all games.

“We’re proud that our member schools have been taking steps to follow the governor’s orders and limit the spread of the virus,” said Bernard Childress, executive director of TSSAA. “It is vitally important that we continue to be smart and safe in our activities, wear a mask, wash our hands and practice social distancing at every athletic contest.”
