
Murray, Ky.–An arrest of a Racine, Wisconsin, 19-year-old has been made in the bomb threat/shots fired incidents at Murray High School.
After extensive investigation into the case, detectives from Murray Police traveled to Racine to make the arrest early this morning. A press conference was held mid-morning this morning at the Murray Police Department to announce the arrest.
The Murray Police Department responded to Murray High School on January 25 in reference to a report of shots fired and again on January 26 in reference to a bomb threat. In both instances, it was determined that both reports were false and no real danger existed at the school.
Detectives with the Murray Police Department immediately began an investigation January 25. Through extensive investigation, detectives discovered that all phone calls related to these cases were made by Kya Nelson, age 19, of Racine.
Detectives traveled to Racine, Wisconsin and on today at approximately 7:00 AM they assisted with the execution of a search warrant at Nelson’s residence.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Nelson for two counts of Terroristic Threatening 2nd Degree and one count of Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree. Nelson was arrested and lodged in the Racine County Jail, and he is awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
Throughout the investigation and responding to the school, the Murray Police Department was assisted by the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, Murray State University Police Department, ATF, FBI, Racine Police Department, Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Murray Fire Department, Murray Calloway County Ambulance Service, and Calloway County Fire Rescue.
