
Huntingdon, Tenn.–Mudslingers Pottery Studio and The Dixie Carter Performing Arts and Academic Enrichment Center will be hosting opportunities for students to experience the hands-on basics of pottery under the instruction of accomplished artist Candace Gooch-Ward beginning as early as Monday, February 22.
The Dixie is proud to offer this exceptional educational program through Mudslingers Pottery Studio as a part of its mission to provide visual arts programs that empower students of all ages to embrace their artistic abilities, grow and gain confidence in those abilities, and open doors to a life of creative excellence.
Both adult and children sessions are offered for the Spring 2021 Season:
1ST – 2ND GRADE SESSION

Children’s sessions are $120 per student for the 6-class session. Pricing for adults is $170 per student for the 6-class session and $255 per student for the 12-class session. Both children and adult students will have a special opportunity to display their work in an exhibit at Mudslingers Studio.
Classes are limited to 10 students per class and will focus on the basic pottery skills of pinching, coil building, slab construction, and throwing on the potter’s wheel. Students will also be introduced to glazing and firing processes.
These unique classes are sponsored in part by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission for the purpose of offering the residents of Tennessee access to and opportunities to participate in the arts. Children may also apply for the Solomon Lee Memorial Scholarship by visiting DixiePAC.net/pottery.
Instructor Candace Gooch-Ward is a graduate of Union University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Ceramics and Sculpture. Candace interned at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in East Tennessee during college. She is a Carroll County native and Clarksburg High School alumni. In addition to instructing at Mudslingers, Candace is the Art Department Secretary at Union University and continues to create in her personal studio in Jackson, TN.
