Henry County, Tenn.–After a lull of some two weeks, the arson brush fires in Henry County appear to have resumed.
Henry County firefighters were called to two brush fires last night and early this morning–one in Cottage Grove and the other in the Springville district.
Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey said this morning that both are being investigated as arson by both the sheriff’s office and TBI. A $5,000 reward was issued earlier for information on the fires and suspects.
Over a dozen fires are being investigated as arson. Most have been brush fires which have burned up a considerable amount of woodlands. One abandoned structure was destroyed in the Mansfield area.
Cottage Grove Volunteer Firefighters were called to Wagner Road at 11:40 p.m. Sunday. Fire Chief John Weiher said when firefighters arrived, the fire had moved up both sides of the road and was up into the surrounding woods.
Weiher said the fire burned three acres of woodland.
Cottage Grove responded with two tankers, two brush trucks and 14 firefighters and were on the scene for about an hour.
The Springville Volunteer Fire Department was called to a brush fire at Hwy. 641 and Rushing Road around 4 a.m. Fire Chief Bob McDowell said the fire burned up around an acre of woodland.
Springville dispatched two trucks and four firefighters. Mutual aid was received from the Mansfield VFD.
