Cottage Grove, Tenn.–A carport was destroyed by an early-morning fire in Cottage Grove.
The Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a home at the corner of Lampkins Road and Hwy. 140 at 2:50 a.m.
Fire Chief John Weiher said the metal carport was a total loss. He said the likely cause of the fire was ashes from a wood stove. He said residents had dumped the ashes on the ground and they ignited and burned across the ground to the carport.
Seventeen firefighters responded with two engines and three tankers.
