
Buchanan, Tenn.–A resident was able to escape with the family dogs from a structure fire Sunday night in the Buchanan area.
At approximately 7 pm Sunday night, the Paris Landing Fire Department and Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 2440 Red Top Hill Road for a report of a structure fire.
Fire Chief Reggie Coles said arriving units found a grease fire in the kitchen. The fire had been partially extinguished by a neighbor with a fire extinguisher prior to the firefighters’ arrival.
The teenage occupant stated she was cooking on the stove when hot grease splashed out on the stove and ignited. She called for help and managed to escape with the family dogs uninjured.
Damage is estimated at $35,000. Paris Landing had 3 trucks and 11 firefighters on the scene for 1 hour.
The owner, Jamie Hinson, Paris Landing Fire Dept Assistant Chief, was not home at the time of the incident.
