Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man participated in the trials for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at Vanderbilt Medical Center which resulted in the recent rollout of vaccines, which have given Tennesseans hope in the ongoing pandemic.
Lee Greer received his first shot at Vanderbilt on August 31 and his second on September 28. Half of those who were involved in the trial got the actual vaccine and half received a placebo, without any knowing which they received.
Greer was informed Sunday that he was “unblinded”, meaning he was told if he had received a placebo or the real thing. Greer was happy–and relieved–to learn he had received “the real goods”, as he put it.
Doctors at Vanderbilt “have played a big part in the amazing Operation Warp Speed, developing vaccines with historic speed”, he said.
Greer noted he had no side effects after receiving his shot in August, and just a little fatigue and nausea after the second shot in September.
He commended the doctors at Vanderbilt and the medical community in Paris which he said is “still doing great job after many months of stress. Get Moderna or Pfizer whichever you can get your hands on first. Go get in line.”
The Henry County Medical Center and the Henry County Health Department distributed vaccines over the last two weeks to front line health workers, first responders, educators, and persons over 65 years old.
