Humboldt, Tenn.–During last month’s holiday season, Tyson Foods donated 40,000 pounds of protein to Helping Hand of Humboldt. The non-profit is dedicated to providing the necessities of life for those who cannot provide such for themselves.

“Tyson Foods is proud to support the work of Helping Hand of Humboldt and provide for the local community. The turnout we had was just incredible, and the community was very grateful,” said Tom McCue, Tyson Foods complex manager. “We are deeply committed to improving the quality of life in the communities where we operate by providing high-quality protein to help local families.”

Demand was high as protein was distributed on December 29th and 30th. The donation was so popular that the trailer of protein was moved to Sugar Creek Church’s large parking lot to finish distribution.

Helping Hand of Humboldt’s Community Kitchen opens its doors daily to serve free hot meals to hundreds of people in need as well as emergency food during off hours. Visitors also have the option to shower and wash their clothes. They receive free toiletries and any other items they need, along with guidance and counseling.

“We’re very thankful for Tyson’s generous protein donation, which will go a long way in helping those in need in Humboldt,” said Sharon Hartig Director of Helping Hands of Humboldt “Our daily, nutritional hot meals provide free food to more than 500 people per month, and we wouldn’t be able to make this happen without donations like these.”

Tyson Foods has donated more food over the past 12 months than ever in its 85-year history. The company donated a record 30 million pounds of protein, equivalent to 120 million meals, this year to fight hunger. The donations were part of nearly $75 million invested to support its team members and critical needs in local communities where the company operates in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
