Union City, Tenn.–Both Union City High School basketball teams will participate in separate Christmas tournaments, beginning today.
The Tornado boys will play in the 56th annual Martin Lions Club Christmas Tournament, while the UC girls will get in a pair of games at the Dot Foods Christmas event at Dyersburg.
After numerous alterations to the bracket, the Union City boys will face Bolivar (5-3) at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Martin Middle School. A win would advance the Purple and Gold to the winners’ bracket semifinals against either West Carroll or Briarcrest on Tuesday at 5:30, also at MMS.
A Monday setback would bump UC to the losers’ bracket, where they’d play again at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Martin Middle.
The Tornadoes – 4-4 on the season — will play a third game in the event on Wednesday, time and location to be determined.
Due to COVID regulations and protocols instituted last week by the TSSAA for inside athletic competitions in the aftermath of Gov. Bill Lee’s Executive Order, only household members of players’ families will be allowed to attend and purchase tickets at the door.
Fans will not be allowed into the gymnasium until 15 minutes prior to scheduled tip-off.
No TSSAA or TACA passes will be accepted.
The Union City girls (3-3) will face USJ (5-3) at 4 p.m. Monday at Dyersburg High School as part of a revamped Dot Foods Christmas Tournament setup.
Should they win Monday, the Lady Tornadoes will play Wednesday at 4 against either the host school, Greenfield or Munford.
A loss Monday, and UC would play the loser of the G’field-Munford game, Tuesday afternoon at 2.
Each player will be allotted four tickets for family members, to be purchased at the door.
