Paris, Tenn.—The Henry County Commission appointed Dr. Stan Dunagan of Paris to the Henry County Schools board of education to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Sheriff Josh Frey from the school board.

Frey resigned in November after his election to the office of Sheriff.

Tonight’s county commission meeting was conducted remotely, with most commissioners participating by telephone and a few in attendance in person. County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway had announced Sunday night the meeting would be conducted remotely to meet Gov. Bill Lee’s Executive Order limiting public gatherings to no more than 10 people.

Dr. Dunagan was appointed by acclimation to serve as school board member representing District 2. He attended the meeting in person and told the commission he was excited to be the nominee for the board. He said he brings his experience at UTM, independence and a desire “to work for the kids in my district and all the districts in the county.”

Ridgeway said, “I’ve known Dr. Dunagan for a long time and he’ll do a fantastic job.”

In other business during the short session:

–Commissioners authorized extension of the withdrawal period of loan series 2018 for $9.2M between Henry County and the Public Building Authority of Clarksville. The loan was for construction projects at Henry County Medical Center that had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The commissioners agreed to an additional year to draw out the loan.

–Commissioners approved members of the Audit Committee: Bobby Milam, Steve Greer, Melanie Dodd, Kenneth Humphreys, Jill Coker—replacing Tom Beasley; and Jeremy Stone.

–New County Veterans’ Services Officer Jon Bolding addressed the commission by telephone and said he is looking forward to his new position and said his impetus in seeking the job was his desire to do something for the community.
