Paris, Tenn.–You’ll be seeing a lot of activity outside the Henry County Courthouse over the next months as workers replace the roof on the historic structure.

Henry County Mayor John Penn Ridgeway said the Wade Dortch Roofing company of Paris was the low bidder on the project and will be installing the new roof in sections.

“They’re tearing off right now and then they’ll be replacing the soffits and going section by section,” he said. “They using a 36,000 pound lift for the project.”

Ridgeway said, “It was really needed. This is something that was discussed by the budget committee and has been planned for awhile. It’s actually been 30 years since we had a total roof replacement on the courthouse, so it really was needed.”

Projections are that the project will take some two to three months and weather permitting, is projected to be done hopefully by the end of February.

The courthouse was completed in 1896 and is the county’s fourth courthouse.
