Union City, Tenn.–COVID-19 regulations and protocols limiting attendance at Union City High School basketball games this season won’t keep Tornado fans from seeing the Purple and Gold teams play home games.

UCHS officials have announced plans to livestream all games at Marty Sisco Gymnasium this season, beginning with Saturday night’s home opener against Covington.

The school system’s Facebook page (UC Schools) will livestream both the girls’ and boys’ games.

Union City High School Principal Jacob Cross, who announced a reduced admission plan earlier this week due to the coronavirus outbreak, went to work immediately after that decision to make watching games possible via technology available to the school.

“It was important for us to try and find a way for the many fans of Tornado basketball to watch our teams play this season,” Cross said. “It might not be the same experience as being there in person, but it will allow us to reach our large fan base and do so without an expense to them.

“With anything new — and with modern technology — there could be a glitch or two. We ask for patience should those instances arise. There will be challenges that the general public does not understand and we’ll be addressing those.

“As with everything else, anything we do and provide will be with Union City Schools and our student-athletes’ best interest in mind.”

Tip-off for the girls’ opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday.

Union City’s only other home games before the Christmas Break will be Dec. 15 against Dresden.
