Paris, Tenn.–The athletic directors from the River Conference met Wednesday to discuss the remainder of the regular season and the conference tournament. The conference is for middle school basketball: Lakewood, Harrelson, Henry, Camden, Stewart County and Houston County
Henry County Schools Middle School Athletic Director Renae Lassiter said, “At this time, there are too many games that need to be made up before the tournament starting date already scheduled. As a result of teams having to quarantine and games being postponed, we made the following decisions:”
• The tournament dates will now be January 14, 16, 19, 21, and 23.
• All conference games must be played by January 13.
• In the event games are not completed by this date, winning percentage from conference games played will be used for seeding purposes.
• The higher seeds will host until the championship games. Those will be played at HCHS.
• Only 2 tickets per player and cheerleader will be available for purchase.
• In the event a team is in quarantine on the day of a tournament game, it will be a forfeit and the other team will move to the next round.
• If the tournament is unable to be played for any reason (Covid, weather, school shutdowns, etc) the teams who finish number one in the regular season will be conference champions.
The tournament set up is as follows: (We may combine a girls and boys game if one school has to travel to another school on both nights)
• Thursday, January 14 Girls #6 at #3, Girls #5 at #4
• Saturday, January 16 Boys #6 at #3, Boys #5 at #4
• Tuesday, January 19 Girls #6/3 winner at #2, Girls #5/4 winner at #1
• Thursday, January 21 Boys #6/3 winner at #2, Boys #5/4 winner at #1
• Saturday, January 23 Girls and Boys Championships at HCHS
This is the best option for our student athletes to be able to finish the season and be fair to all the schools involved.
