Cottage Grove, Tenn.–A barn storing equipment and hay bales was destroyed by fire in Cottage Grove but members of the Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department and neighboring farmers were able to keep the fire from other nearby structures, including the residence.

The fire department was called at 5:13 p.m. Sunday to the structure fire on Midway Road. Firefighters found the barn fully engulfed and with the help of the Moss and Yoder families who came to the scene with their tractors, they were able to keep the fire from spreading to two more barns on one side and the residence on the other.

Eighteen firefighters were on scene along with two pumpers and three tankers were on scene until 8:15 p.m.

Fire Department officials said, “We want to say a special thank you to two local farmers who came out with tractors and helped move hay so other structures didn’t catch fire. Thank you so much to the Moss and Yoder family for your help!”
